New Coke-oven Gas to Methanol Production Line Runs in Shanxi
May 26th, 2009China’s first set of devices that can produce 300,000 tons of methanol with coke-oven gas annually just completed construction and started operation on May 25, 2009 in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, the largest coke production base in China.
Tianji Coal Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd., formerly known as Shanxi Chemical Fertilizer Plant, and Shanxi Lu’an Environmental Energy Development Co., Ltd., a coking and coal chemical arm of Shanxi Lu’an Mining Group, are the co-investors of this project.
The project is designed to recover 400 million cubic meters of coke oven gas per year and turn out 300,000 tons of refined methanol, 11,000 tons of crude benzene, and 10,000 tons of ammonium sulfate annually.
Given the production scale, the coke-oven-gas to methanol project is a landmark in the recycling utilization of coke oven gas in China. Notably, the two investors poured CNY 1.36 billion into it and expect further advance in coal chemical field.
